Every week, the children in each group take part in a small Kabbalat Shabbat happening in their own classroom. This consists of lighting candles, enjoying the challah that they have prepared and tasting the ‘grape-juice’ wine. This ceremony focuses on our end of week ritual, and the cultural significance of the ending of the week, rather than religious practice.

In our Zebras, Lions and Elephants groups, we invite the parents who wish to join the class once a month for the Kab Shab ceremony, and to celebrate any birthday’s for the month with the group. All children who have had, or will have a birthday during the month, will be invited to lead Shabbat with one of the staff from the room.

Parents of the birthday children, may wish to bring special fruit or a homemade cake (sugar free, following our online recipes), but there is no obligation to do this.
