Points to consider for 1st Interview meetings @ Rainbow
- Welcome the interviewee to Rainbow and introduce them to the team
- We want to see the ‘best’ that they can be (not the worst)
- We need to make the interview easy for them to succeed – so we can draw out whatever skills they have!
- Pair the interviewee with someone good – and ask them to ‘look after’ them. It should be a GOOD practitioner
- The kind of skills that we want to see; how do they communicate, work in a team, listen and carry out instructions, bond with the children and how comfortable they are around children, practical skills such as reading, sweeping the floor/cleaning a table, washing hands, wiping noses
- Don’t ‘feed’ them to the Lions – be gentle, nurturing and supportive
- Do set high standards, and expect them to be professional
- Do remind them of basic things we expect (phones away, on the floor with the children…)
- Guide and support through out – tell the interviewee when you want them to change or do something different, so we get to see a range of skills
- Make sure your own expectations are not too high – they will not be able to use initiative and will not know HOW we like to do things
