We have a mix of English and Hebrew speaking staff who support our bilingual philosophy. Our books, play materials and toys are a mix of Hebrew and English, providing a rich bi-lingual environment reinforcing both English and Hebrew simultaneously as equally important languages. Around half of our staff members are English speakers, and speak only English with the children, and the other half speak only Hebrew. The gan is suitable for children who come from bilingual (or trilingual) families AND those who speak only ONE language at home. There is a significant research that shows the benefits for all children of being exposed to an additional language from a young age.
We have a strong commitment to diversity, and support the children in understanding, and celebrating different kinds of families.
We believe…
Children are born ready, able and eager to learn. They actively reach out to interact with other people and in the world around them. Development is not an automatic process, however, it depends on each unique child having opportunities to interact in positive relationships and enabling environments.
Children develop quickly in the early years, and our early years practitioners aim to do all they can to help children have the best possible start in life. Children have a right, spelled out in the United Nations Convention on the Rights of the Child, to provision which enables them to develop their personalities, talents and abilities. Our aim is to foster children’s sense of identity and positive self image, showing how we value and embrace each child and family’s background, parenting arrangements, ethnicity and culture.
The framework
We believe that learning and development is holistic and it is important that all aspects of learning and development are integrated. Also, it is important that planning, structured activities and learning experiences are individualized and meet the needs of the ‘individual’ child, rather than just the group. In order to support effective learning and development, we are following the Early Years Foundation Stage
Active learning – children concentrate and keep on trying if they encounter difficulties, and enjoy achievements; and
Creating and thinking critically – children have and develop their own ideas, make links between ideas, and develop strategies for doing things.
