Cafe On-Boarding Information

Section 2- On-Boarding Information

Induction

During your first shift, which is considered a ‘training’ shift, and other shifts thereafter, until you pass your induction, you will be paid at the training rate of 30 ILS per hour. Your induction shift will usually consist of just one shift, but may be extended to more if the manager does not feel that you are yet able to carry out the role independently, without support. We will not continue to offer you shifts, if after the third shift you have still not passed your induction.

 Break Times

Usual shifts are 6 hours, and as such there is no break incorporated. If you work over 6 hours, you must take a minimum of 30 minutes break. The breaktime will be agreed with the manager or shift leader in advance, and must be taken at the specific time. Break times are unpaid. If any ad-hoc breaks are agreed during your 6 hour shift, these would usually be unpaid.

If you work agreed additional hours, you are paid for these. This includes any hours which are over and above the hours that show on the weekly schedule.  No overtime is permitted without the prior permission of the manager. If you work unauthorised extra hours, without permission, you are not paid for these, and it is considered as a disciplinary matter.

You are not permitted to work more than 12 hours in any one day and no more than 15 extra hours when working a 5-day week. Where you also work extra hours on a Friday; these can be no more than 6 extra hours.

 Monthly staff meetings

You are required to attend monthly staff team meetings. These are once per month; times are published in advance. It is compulsory to attend these. Failure to attend staff meetings could result in disciplinary action.

Dress code and professionalism

You are required to dress in clean, laundered clothes, without stains or marks. Slogans on clothes which may be considered offensive (in the manager’s or director’s opinion) cannot be worn. Attire should be respectful and professional. Trendy wear is encouraged. Sensible footwear, including no open toe shoes should be worn during all shifts.

Salary and calculation of pay

Your salary is paid at 40 ILS per hour; for the hours you were scheduled and worked.  Where you have worked over 42 hours per week, any additional hours will be paid at a higher rate, according to Israeli law. Currently the rules state that the first two hours after 42 are paid at 125% of your hourly rate and any further hours are paid at 150% of your hourly rate.

Any hours worked on a Saturday will be paid at 150% of the hourly rate.

Clocking in or out for extra hours (not shown on the weekly/daily schedule) without them having been authorised is considered as misconduct and will not be paid and is considered a disciplinary matter.

Your salary will be paid on or before the 10th of each month in arrears. You can opt to be paid by cheque or bank transfer. Where we have your correct account details via the SIF (Staff Information From) this will be deposited into your account, where we do not, we will provide you with a cheque which can be picked up from the Rainbow front office on the 10th of the month.

Holiday, pension and convalescence are paid in accordance with Israeli law.

Clocking in and out

You are required to use the time clock each day to clock in and out at the beginning and end of your shift. You are required to clock in and out for breaks

Please follow these guidelines for signing in and out, to ensure that you meet company policy:

  1. Sign in ONLY at the official start time of your shift, not before.
  1. Sign out NO LATER than the end of your shift; unless you have expressed permission from a manager to work late and claim overtime.
  1. Sign Out AFTER you have finished your shift, BEFORE you take any breaks, or relax with a coffee

You will have received an induction on how to use the clock but please ask for help if you need any further guidance or support with regards to the clocking in system.

If you clock in before your shift is due to start, or after it is due to finish, the system will automatically reduce your hours to your scheduled hours. The system will also limit your hours to 6  hours per day automatically. If you have worked overtime, and this has been approved, you will need to inform the administrator to ensure a manual override of the system is activated.
